Designation of Origin: D.O.Ca. Rioja, Spain. Zone: Rioja Alta.
Location: Baños de Río Tobía (La Rioja)
Vineyard: Organic viticulture.
Grape variety: 50% Garnacha Blanca, 20% Malvasía, 20% Viura and 10% Turruntés
Vine: SINGULAR VINEYARD planted in 1906 in the Alto Najerilla Valley.
Soil: Vines in bush/globet system, planted on south-facing slopes at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. The soils are poor and shallow with a marked calcareous-clay composition and high iron content. It is one of the highest slope vineyards in Rioja.
Winemaking: After hand-destemming, the grapes go to a small vertical press. Subsequently a static racking is carried out, carrying out fermentation at 16º C, in new 500-liter barrels of one of the best oaks in France.
Ageing: Wine FERMENTED IN OAK BARREL with a stay 8 months in the barrel with the lees.
Harvest: Hand-harvested in 15 kg cases during the second week of October. Vineyard yield of 2.500 kg per hectare.
2018 Vintage: Was rated as a “Good” year by the Rioja Control Board of the Rioja Designation of Origin (D.O.Ca. Rioja). However it has been an excellent vintage for white wines. In the area of Alto Najerila, it has been a year of very high rainfall in the spring and early summer and significantly lower temperatures. Nevertheless, the months of September and October have been dry and with temperatures higher than average, together with very cold temperatures at night. The harvest has a higher production than in previous vintages.
Climate: The climate has an Atlantic influence, with cold winters, warm summers and long warm autumns. The strong temperature variation between day and night causes a slow ripening, with is very suitable for producing polyphenols, developing aromas, and giving our wines their characteristics quality. These characteristics highlight the elegance of aromas of this wine.
Production: 600 bottles.
